The Eaglebrook Cross Country team traveled north to Cardigan Mountain School this past Saturday to take part in a longstanding friendly rivalry. The weather provided perfect conditions for running and the boys were eager to get in to the woods. Cardigan’s course tallied a lengthy 3.1 miles and encompassed a variety of terrain and rolling hills. As anticipated, the race was very competitive from start to finish. Rounding the final stretch, the top three runners came sprinting up the hill side by side. With a quick burst of energy, Eaglebrook’s Declan Cullinane propelled himself to first place with a photo-finish and an impressive time of 19:18. Following his footsteps was a Cardigan runner, alongside Vishnu Rjakannan, finishing in 3rd with a time of 19:20. Soon there after, Captain Jake Meier crossed the finish in 4th place with a time of 19:55. Rounding out the top ten was Austin Propper with a time of 20:04 at 6th place, Daniel Pinckney with a time of 20:29 at 9th place, and Andrew Jung with a time of 21:07 at 10th place. Luke Roosa showed much improvement at Cardigan with an all time best 12th place finish and time of 21:36. Eaglebrook then solidified spots 14-2. First came Shep Jernigan with a time of 21:40 at 14th place, Tyler Unruh with a time of 22:07 at 15th place, Jonny Elkins with a time of 22:11 at 16th place, Jack O’Neil with a time of 22:14 at 17th place, Nick Briones with a time of 22:21 at 18th place, Stearns Weil with a time of 22:30 at 19th place, and Kent Pendergast with a time of 22:39 at 20th place. Thomas Eglin battled through some fatigue and finished in 23rd place with a time 23:26. Orlando Doull ran an impressive 24:24 finishing in 26th place. Harrison Graham came in at 26:45 in 31st place with Merrick Holmes following him at 27:10 in 32nd place. Emily Field ran a competitive race battling back and forth with a Cardigan runner for the entirety of the course. Her patience and determination paid off as she passed the boy in the final stretch of the race, finishing with a proud 34:43 in 38th place. The coaches couldn’t be happier with the performance of Eaglebrook School students as athletes and respectful competitors. We concluded the day by exchanging handshakes with the Cardigan Team and a cheer for their hospitality. Eaglebrook looks ahead to our next race, which will be held at Keene on Wednesday, October 14.
