Ski Team at the New England Prep School Alpine Ski Championships

The top Eaglebrook Ski Team racers met with mixed results at the NE Prep School Alpine Ski Championships held at Proctor Academy’s Blackwater Ski Area on February 15. In a field of 16 boys’ prep school teams, the GS squared struggled on a narrow, fairly steep race trail, which favored the heavier, more aggressive prep school racers. After our #1 racer overshot a tight right foot turn and had to hike, a less than aggressive tone was set and the rest of the team did not go after the course as they could have. The top GS Brookie finish was Hunters Quigg's 23rd place finish followed by Zach Leeds in 36th. Collin Alexander finished in 41st, and Lucien Malle's 54th place finish. Zach Mooney individually redeemed himself from his first run mistake by turning in a banner second run of 34.03, good for 8th place in that run.
On a steep and varied terrain slalom hill the Eaglebrook skills came through with a number of solid runs that catapulted the team into a very satisfying fourth place team finish. Zach Mooney turned in two exciting runs to take a medal winning 5th place, followed by Hunter Quigg's strong 19th place finish, Henry Conlon in 24th with a first run falter and rounding out the teams scoring, and an always reliable Zach Leeds in 27th position. The team felt a lot better and ended on a strong note. The team would also like to thank the strong support it received from many parents that traveled to this big event and all the delicious food that they provided. Results are posted on the NEPSAC web site or at prepskiing.org.
Ski Team racing continues next Wednesday, February 22 at the Easton Ski Area (Eaglebrook) with the MISL Championships and Awards and a season ending Eaglebrook USSA OPEN J3/4/5 Slalom. Come out and support your racers. Volunteers needed for the USSA race on Sunday, February 26.
Sun. 2/26/12.
