Why would you send a sixth-grade boy to boarding school? Shouldn't a ninth-grade student start high school? What is a junior boarding school? Make an appointment to visit us today and learn why Eaglebrook, a boarding and day school for boys in middle school, might be the right place for your son.
Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
On Wednesday, Eaglebrook took to the ice against Deerfield in the first game back from the winter break with no practices. Given the circumstances it was unclear how the team would respond. Eaglebrook came out strong, generating several scoring chances but not quite getting the puck past Deerfield's goaltender, Rhys Louis (Eaglebrook class of 2009). The game went back and forth with chances at both ends. In a game so tightly contested, it was clear the first team to score was going to be at a significant advantage. Unfortunately, that first goal belonged to Deerfield when a broken breakout attempt sent a Deerfield forward crashing in from the sidewall. His shot managed to find its way through traffic and Deerfield went up 1-0. Eaglebrook responded well, however, and just a few minutes later Joe Redfearn used his legs to weave through the neutral zone and break in on a two-on-one with Brendan O'Connell. Redfearn slid the puck across the net and O'Connell, ever so patiently, tucked the puck in to tie the score at 1. The ever-opportunistic Deerfield team then converted an odd-man rush, which put them on top 2-1. It looked to be that score going into the locker room between the second and third when a seeing eye shot from the point knocked off an Eaglebrook skate and into our own net. Deerfield took a 3-1 lead into the break. Eaglebrook came out with a bit more urgency in the third but unfortunately it was just not our night. Deerfield found themselves up 4-1 late in the third before Brenden Russ stormed in from the point, beating two defenders and tucking the puck in the net. It was a 4-2 defeat for Eaglebrook. We look to get back to the win column when we take on the Springfield Rifles on Saturday night.
