Varsity Tennis Wins New England Junior Prep Tournament

CLEAN SWEEP FOR EAGLEBROOK AT NEW ENGLAND'S JUNIOR PREP SCHOOL TENNIS TOURNAMENT
Three events and three trophies for Eaglebrook, as the boys Varsity Tennis team returned triumphant from a fun filled day at Fessenden School. Julian Fialkow, Hayden Dunham, Pato Kuri and Zach Togut were all entered into the main singles draw and if anyone lost, they were entered into the consolation tournament. Zach Togut had a difficult first round match and lost to the Belmont Hill number one. That left him free to enter the consolation tournament and he certainly took advantage. He played through four rounds, before defeating the Fessenden number three, 8-5 in an exciting final. One trophy was now in the bag. Pato and Hayden lost their second round matches, but helped accrue enough points, along with Julian and Zach, for Eaglebrook to lift the Team Trophy for most successful team at the event. That left Julian to challenge for the singles championship. He sailed through all the early rounds, barely being extended until the final. Here he was to face the second seed and Fenn number one. Julian started like a house on fire and raced into a 5-0 lead. This was then cut back, as he was jostled into making a series of unforced errors. The score was now 5-5. Julian went up 6-5, then 7-5. He then relaxed and allowed his resilient opponent to pull level at 7-7. The crowd were cheering and whistling, as the level of tennis and pressure intensified. However, the greater courage and strength of Julian prevailed, as he won the next two games to secure a magical 9-7 victory.
What a tremendous day for the whole Eaglebrook team as they traveled back to school with two worthy singles champions in Julian Fialkow and Zach Togut as well as cradling the most important one, the team trophy for best Junior Prep School tennis team in New England.
