Eaglebrook School was founded in 1922 by Howard Gibbs as a private boarding and day school for boys in middle school. Learn about our school in Deerfield, Massachusetts then and now, and read about the Core Skills we think every boy should know.
At Eaglebrook, we recognize that all students learn in different ways, vary in their innate abilities, and come from a variety of educational backgrounds. Classes at Eaglebrook are organized to meet the needs of each boy.
Eaglebrook is a close community of middle school students, teachers, and their families. Activities outside of the academic classroom are important to the intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development of boys in middle school. At Eaglebrook, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Delivering on our mission is only possible through the incredible generosity of alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends.”
Supporting Boys' Mental Health and Academic Excellence
Eaglebrook News Team
At Eaglebrook, we know that supporting mental health and academics is key to helping our boys thrive. That is why we focus on creating a well-rounded environment where students feel confident, connected, and ready for success—both in and out of the classroom.
Daily Focus on Mental Health
Mental health is a top priority here. We’ve put systems in place to make sure every boy has the support he needs, whether it’s emotional, social, or physical.
Mindfulness Every Day: Each morning, our Head of School leads a mindfulness practice for the entire school. It’s a quick and effective way to help boys start their day feeling calm and focused. On Monday, April 7, one of our counselors spoke at the Morning Meeting about how mindfulness helps us to manage stress, giving students the tools to recognize stress in their own lives.
Counseling and Health Support: The boys always have someone to talk to as we have full-time counselors and nurses on staff. Whether it’s one-on-one counseling or just having someone to listen to them, we are here to help our students. Students also help each other. Our Peer Counseling Committee coordinated the use of therapy dogs on weekends to help alleviate stress.
Healthy Eating Habits:
Good nutrition supports mental clarity and emotional well-being That is one reason we serve healthy meals in the dining hall with minimal sugar to keep boys feeling balanced. The boys usually have less than three hours of screen time a day, so they may have the chance to focus on their studies and personal connections.
Fostering Academic Growth
We provide a curriculum that keeps a middle school boy engaged and challenged, and one that goes beyond just textbooks. Each student has an advisor who they meet with weekly to talk about school, life, or anything else on their mind. This relationship not only helps them develop a love of learning but also the skills and confidence they will need for their future.
A Supportive Community
What makes Eaglebrook stand out is our community. Our boys, teachers, and staff work together to create a positive, welcoming environment. We encourage respect for each other’s differences and emphasize kindness, which helps each student feel valued and supported. We also have a variety of affinity groups, like the Black/POC Affinity Group, Korean Affinity Group, and Chinese Affinity Group, giving students the chance to connect with others who share their backgrounds and experiences. The Dining Hall team embraces diversity by serving food from all over the world, and we make sure to celebrate holidays and traditions from different cultures, helping students appreciate the richness of our global community.
Preparing Boys for Success
Whether it’s through building resilience, developing study habits, or managing stress, we prepare boys for more than just the next grade level. At Eaglebrook, we’re all about helping them grow into confident, well-rounded individuals who are ready to take on the challenges of secondary school—and life.
