Varsity Hockey at the Eaglebrook Thanksgiving Tournament
To kick of the 2016-17 season, the Eaglebrook Varsity hockey team migrated back to campus for the final weekend of their break to host the annual Thanksgiving tournament. The boys welcomed the Central CT Capitols to Alfond Arena to get things underway and they would not disappoint. Despite the limited amount of practice leading up to the contest, the boys in blue got off to a fast start. A key turnover led to a short-handed goal and things opened up from there. With great effort and teamwork, the Eagles soared to a 9-1 victory. Following the team lunch, the boys squared off against a formidable opponent in the East Coast Wizards for their second game of the tourney. The Wizards would give the Eagles everything they could handle, as the teams traded goals throughout the first 2 periods. However, the Eagles were able to bury one late to secure the victory 4-3 and solidify a semi-final spot. The eventual opponent would be the Portland Jr. Pirates. Just like the opening game, the Eagles exhibited an impressive offensive attack throughout the contest. The combination of instinctive offensive play in front of the net, coupled with stout defensive zone coverage allowed the Eagles to capitalize in key situations, resulting in a 9-2 victory. For the championship game, the Eagles would face a familiar foe in the Wizards for the second time. Despite going up early, the Eagles ran into hot goaltending play that deterred them from pulling away. The Wizards were able to capitalize on key turnovers and secure a 4-1 victory. The Eagles gave it everything they had and represented themselves in true Eaglebrook fashion on and off the ice throughout the weekend. The coaching staff is proud of their boys’ progress in such a short period of time. The team would also like to thank all the parents for the support with travel and arrangements throughout the weekend.
