EAGLES FIGHT OFF NMH ONSLAUGHT

King Canute, from ancient lore, the King of England, once proclaimed that he could command the waves and hold them back from coming onto his shores. If he were alive today, where he failed, he would have seen the Eaglebrook Varsity team succeed and hold back the tide, as wave after wave of NMH attacks rained down on the Eagles goal and were turned away. Outmatched in every department except one, the NMH team proved superior on the ball, but must have been impressed with the resilience, tenacity and determination of the entire Eaglebrook team, this warm Monday last. Tackles flew in, like hawks descending on their prey. The young Eagles came to play and to compete and but for the height of the NMH keeper, who superbly tipped over a free kick from the impressive Gus Walsh, the Eagles may even have had the temerity to take the lead. The woodwork surrounding Diego Narchi goal was leading a charmed life and, with some of the saves Diego made, not even an ancient Egyptian Fakir could have protected the goal with such a dominant charm. The watching NMH varsity coach, could not have failed to be impressed, as the Eagles challenged for every ball, threw their bodies on the line and showed why, despite their tender years, that teams as senior as NMH want us on their schedule. Pride, some say is a sin, but today both Eaglebrook coaches shone with so much pride, that even during a solar eclipse, they could have been seen from many a mile. Today was the day, where pretty soccer was not going to be much use and where guts and gore can be put to more use than when playing Call of Duty. Today was that day to leave it all out on the field, and leave with sweat dripping brow, with socks dirtied and falling down, with shirts flaying in the wind and with hearts raised like a flag at full mast, Today was our day and we deserved the tie, because sometimes a tie is very much a victory and today was indeed such a day. Well done to one and all.
