Cross Country Is Off to a Fast Start

Coach Keane
The 2024 Cross Country team enters the season having graduated a number of experienced, record-breaking runners and leaders, but we are happy to welcome a talented group of promising new athletes.

Following two weeks of early training in unseasonably warm weather, we hosted a deep Bement team on our hilly 3K (1.86 mile) home course.

Of note, about half of the competitors across both teams were competing in their first-ever meet!

Eli M. ʼ26 was first overall with an impressive time of 12:08. Liam H. ʼ26 finished fourth in 13:08.

Ashton V. ʼ25, Dylan K. ʼ25, and Logan T. ʼ25 formed a pack, running together to cross the line in 8th, 9th and 10th respectively.

Joey H. ʼ26 and Tony Z.ʼ25 also paired up, pushing each other to 12th and 13th place finishes. Ultimately, Bement’s own pack outpaced the Brookies on this day resulting in a narrow team loss.

On Saturday, the Eaglebrook varsity group challenged themselves by competing in the Northfield Mount Hermon XC Invitational, a longer 5K (3.1 mile) race against older secondary school competition. This also meant that the team would be racing against recent Eaglebrook alums and former teammates!

Eli M.ʼ26 was not intimidated by the older boys, ran to the front, and vied for the lead in the Junior Varsity race, before finishing second overall with a precocious time of 19:51.

Liam H. ʼ26 was similarly undaunted garnering 12th in 21:29. The Eaglebrook pack of Ashton V. ʼ25, Dylan K. ʼ25 and Joey H. ʼ26 battled together in the thick of the large field of runners coming in 29th, 30th and 33rd, respectively, with Tony Z. ʼ25 not far behind in 41st.

The team is looking forward to what should be a very close home matchup with Cardigan this coming Saturday.
