Winter Athletics Speaker: Samir Agadi '13

Winter Athletics at Eaglebrook finished off with alumnus Samir Agadi ’13 returning to campus to speak about his athletic journey and how Eaglebrook helped shape him as an athlete and, more importantly, as a teammate.

Seven different athletic opportunities are available to Eaglebrook students each winter season. They are Basketball, Hockey, Recreational Skiing, Ski Patrol, Competitive Skiing, Squash, and Swimming, comprising a total of fifteen teams. Teams experienced many highs and a few lows over the course of the season, but overall, Eaglebrook athletes learned teamwork and sportsmanship, the importance of commitment and cooperation, and hopefully ended their respective seasons with confidence and a sense of pride.

One overall highlight of the season was Mother Nature cooperating and allowing for a great season at the Easton Ski Area on real snow, allowing competitive skiers to train, recreational skiers to enjoy the slopes, and the Ski Patrol to utilize their training to keep everyone safe. Samir played soccer, squash, and tennis while he was a student at Eaglebrook. Tennis was his first love, and he learned squash during his first year on campus. After Eaglebrook Samir went to Loomis Chaffee and then attended Duke University, where, despite his prowess, he was relegated to being a practice player on the tennis team. Samir was persistent, however, and by his junior year, he was a full member of the Division One Duke University Tennis team. Remarkably, he was named captain of the team in his senior year.

Samir encouraged the students to think of the following when they return for the spring season, “whether you think you are a good teammate now, learn how to be a better teammate; learn how to handle the setbacks and failures you have, whether they are on the field or off the field; learn how to process pressure; learn how to be disciplined and prepared. All of these things have shaped me into the person I am today, and I only have Eaglebrook to thank.” Watch Samir's entire talk
