Thirds Basketball Hangs Tough, But Falls to Williston at Home

DEERFIELD, Mass. – February 14, 2024 – An exhausted Eagles Thirds squad hosted the Williston Northampton Wildcats at home on Wednesday. Playing their third game in as many days – and with four players unavailable due to injury or illness – the Eagles put in a valiant effort but fell short by a final score of 41-36.

The tough loss dropped the team’s record to 5-4 with two games remaining.

Eaglebrook hung tight with their opponents for much of the game but simply ran out of gas in the second half despite enthusiastic encouragement from the home crowd.

Trailing by three with under two minutes to play, an all-out defensive stand by the Eagles forced a five-second inbounding violation by the visitors that would have given them the ball for a potential game-tying three.

But that was as close as the Thirds got. An untimely technical foul, that led to a pair of Wildcat free throws, and Williston’s ensuing possession of the ball allowed them to run down the clock.

Next up for Eaglebrook will be a tough battle on the road against the Rectory School, with tipoff scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
